The children really enjoyed the artistic experience with the artist Paul Finch. He covered a range of aspects over a week in June 2023, he relayed his experience about life as an artist, discussed the historical and environmental element involved with the tradition of weaving. Each child in the school, got hands on experience of weaving. Each child made something and were so excited to be able to take their creative work home. The children had a lot of discussion with the artist also and as the artist was in school during Active Schools week it was decided that the children would create a large sculpture of a “Running Man”. He was christened Woody!
We are so lucky to have our visiting teacher Lisa back this term from Mid-Term to Christmas. Lisa Hogan, from Gravity Dance Academy, does Hip-Hop dancing with the children and they love it. Junior and Senior Infants have a structured Aistear time every week. They visit the vets, the doctors, the fire station, Santa’s workshop etc and they learn all about these places through play and roll play. Here are some of our Infants at the Fire Station!
The children from Juniors to Sixth class play hurling and games with Ryan in Crinkill NS every week. He is a fantastic coach and the children look forward to him coming in on a Friday. They play all kinds of fun ball games and they work on the fundamental movements with Ryan and their class teacher. We are fortunate enough to have a visiting coach from Leinster Rugby coming into school to coach all our classes again in the first term until Christmas. This year our coach is Wren, who also plays with Birr Rugby Club. We have Tag Rugby on Thursdays and the children from Juniors up to Sixth love it.
